February was an amazing month for the Anastomosing Dendrite. I don’t know why exactly, but people were subscribing every day. However, I did lose some folks after I published the essay on 1979. In it, I said that President Carter was “grounded in Christ” and that we should pray for him and his family given he is in his last days. This seemed to me the classy thing to do.
Within an hour five people unsubscribed. I don’think they learned much about 1979.
But since then, dozens of new subscribers have come along. Thank you all. But perhaps some of you subscribed thinking I only write about petroleum or punk rock or other cool, nostalgic stuff.
Full disclosure:
Jesus Christ is my Lord. By faith and His grace, I am saved. I did not always accept Him. But he always accepted me, despite my sins. Look bub, when you stare into the abyss of perdition you can fall into it or reach up your hand. He’ll reach down and pull you up.
If you don’t believe that, yet, or ever, I don’t want you to unsubscribe. I want you here, with me, a one-time functional atheist. I get it. I know how you feel. Christian hope can sound SO cornball and Christian certitude is SO unscientific. Reason helped me find my faith.
All truth comes from God, even if those truths came from people who never had the chance to know Him, like Homer and Aristotle. “What is truth?” Pilate cynically asked. I wonder, at the end of that horrible day when Pilate laid himself next to Claudia, if he didn’t consider his question before he drifted off.
Here is some Johnny Cash to help us all through the week.
Thanks for sharing (a bit of) your story. And for the Johnny Cash. And congrats on the new subscribers! Always exciting. (And how silly are people to unsub just because someone has different views or beliefs from them? Isn't that how we learn--?).
