Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a number of education bills 15 May. One in particular is noted for what it outlawed: teaching Critical Theory (both Marcusian and racial), and (b) Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, or promote or engage in political or social activism.
That is what made headlines. But the MORE important thing SB266 did was openly declare the Western Canon as essential to liberty and the Republic. The bill is not just a rhetorical “resolution” but establishes funded public institutions to re-establish Classical learning in the Floridian academy.
I have to admit that this took some serious GUTS on the part of DeSantis and the legislature.
Here is the Hamilton Center’s Spring Schedule. Of course it has been called a “Trojan horse” for racism and bigotry. Critics actually used“Trojan horse” to attack the Center. Oh, the irony…

SB266 codifies the mission of three institutions. The Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education, the Florida Institute of Government and the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom
